Figma won 2025 UX100 design because the file is a room
UX100 · 9 December 2025
Figma leads design UX for 2025. The file is a place other people can stand in. The tool’s job is to disappear once the work is on the canvas.
Presence is the feature
Design files used to be attachments. Figma made them a room: cursors, comments, the same frame. The 2025 award is for that room still being the industry’s actual workplace, and for an interface that does not compete with the layout inside it.
Multiplayer is not a badge. It is the reason a critique can happen on the work instead of in a screenshot thread.
The chrome stays quiet
A tool this capable can become a cockpit. Figma’s canvas still reads as the product. Panels exist to serve the frame you are in. UX100’s design category looks for craft in more people’s hands. In 2025 those hands were in the same file.
Canva and Framer
Canva led 2024 by opening layout to people outside a design title. Framer leads 2026 because the canvas publishes. Figma’s year is the shared file.
