Figma made the design file a place other people can stand in. Multiplayer, comments, and the canvas are one product, and the interface stays out of the work.

Tools sit on the edges. The canvas is the product. Presence, comments, and versions appear when the collaboration needs them.
Impact
Design teams stopped exporting pictures in order to talk. The file became the meeting.
How it works
You draw, others see it, and a comment lands on the object. Dev Mode and FigJam extend the same room instead of starting another app.
Why it won
Design tools in 2025 were still files you emailed. Figma led because the interface assumes more than one person.
