E-Commerce·Class of 2026
Whatnot won 2026 UX100 e-commerce by making the shop a show
UX100 · 1 October 2026
Whatnot leads e-commerce UX for 2026 because a sale can happen live without the interface falling apart. Bidding, the object, and the host are one composition.
Live selling is a layout problem
A product page can be slow. A livestream cannot. Whatnot has to show the item, the price moving, and the person selling it, and still leave a thumb somewhere to bid. That is the design the award is about.
Most commerce UX in 2026 was still a grid. Whatnot treated the grid as the wrong object for this kind of sale.
Trust while the clock runs
Live auctions fail when the buyer cannot tell what they are committing to. Whatnot keeps the item identity visible while the bid changes. The show is not allowed to erase the merchandise.
That is a harder interface than a storefront, and it is why the category leader this year is not a classic shop.
The 2026 e-commerce decision
StockX led the category in 2025 by making a market readable. Shopify led it in 2024 by giving a merchant a store. Whatnot’s year is the live room: commerce as an event you can enter.
Questions about this award
Who is the UX100 e-commerce winner for 2026?
Whatnot. The award recognizes the live selling interface, not a conventional catalog.
Why is a livestream a UX award?
Because the bid, the item, and the host have to stay legible at once. UX100 published Whatnot for solving that layout, which a static product page never has to.
