E-Commerce·Class of 2024
Shopify won 2024 UX100 e-commerce by handing a merchant a store
UX100 · 9 December 2024
Shopify leads e-commerce for 2024. The interface is the shop a person can run: catalog, checkout, and the tools around both, in a product that does not require a development team as the front door.
The merchant is the user
Commerce UX is usually judged from the buyer’s side. Shopify’s 2024 award looks at the person who has to open the shop. Themes, products, and checkout are one admin that still produces a store a customer can finish.
That dual interface, back and front, is the work.
No engineering degree as a prerequisite
The web had stores before Shopify. It did not have a default that a new merchant could operate on a Tuesday. The award is for that default, which later classes answered with different objects: StockX’s market in 2025, Whatnot’s live sale in 2026.
A first-class standard
UX100’s opening e-commerce leader is the store itself. The journal pieces for later years explain the market and the show. They do not replace this one.
Questions about this award
Did Shopify win a UX100 award?
Yes. Shopify is the e-commerce leader for 2024. StockX led in 2025 and Whatnot leads in 2026.
Is the award about the buyer’s checkout or the merchant’s admin?
Both, as one product. UX100 recognized a store a merchant can run and a customer can finish, without engineering as the first step.
